The application of FFC

This picture show you some of the application of Flexible Flat Cable, FFC. FFC is suitable for compact electrical and electronic gadget where space is a constraint. Simple bending and tape put-on can be arrange by request. Please drop a mail here bout what your requirement.
Many of the ribbon cables had been replaced by FFC for not only it space saving merit but also it's cost.

tyco (connector for FFC application)

Tyco was founded in 1960 when Arthur J. Rosenburg, Ph.D., opened a research laboratory to do experimental work for the government. He incorporated the business as Tyco Laboratories in 1962, and changed its focus to high-tech materials science and energy conversion products for the commercial sector. In September 1964, the Company went public, and in 1965 it began to acquire other companies to fill gaps in its development and distribution network. As a result, Tyco's thrust changed to manufacturing industrial products.

Today, Tyco is a model of sophisticated and innovative manufacturing and service employing 250,000 employees worldwide. Each of Tyco's core businesses holds a leadership position in its specific market. One of them is FFC connectors.

Whisker (metallurgy) & GOLD plated FFC

Metal whiskers are a crystalline metallurgical phenomenon whereby metal grows tiny, filiform hairs. The effect is primarily seen on elemental metals but also occurs with alloys.
The mechanism behind metal whisker growth is not well understood, but seems to be encouraged by compressive mechanical stresses including:

- residual stresses caused by electroplating;
- mechanically induced stresses;
- stresses induced by diffusion of different metals; and
- thermally induced stresses.

GoldPlated FFC is available here to overcome your application issues.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances, RoHS

Our FFC is RoHS Compliance, what is RoHS? Accoring to the defination by Wikipedia, it's the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC as adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive took effect on July 1, 2006, but is not a law; it is simply a directive. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods and is part of a legislative initiative to solve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste. In casual conversation, it is often pronounced "ROHS", "Rosh", or "Row Haws", except in Europe, where it is pronounced "Rose".

Configuration of Flexible Flat Cable, FFC

Configuration of Flexible Flat Cable, FFC that are available are many and various. And it's all depend on it application and actual assembly orientation of the said cable or FFC. Bending of the cable also available upon request. Look at the diagram and pick your choice.

Safety Specification and Information

Underwriters Laboratories Inc.UL is the trusted source across the globe for product compliance. Benefiting a range of customers - from manufacturers and retailers to consumers. http://www.ul.com/
FFC comply to 20624 (60V, 80C), 2896 (30V, 80C) & 20861 (300V, 105C) available.

Nomenclature of Flexible Flat Cable

In order to fabricate your cable, information that are required :
P = pitch, in mm
N = number of conductor or core
S1 = Strip length, in mm
S2 = Strip length, in mm
S3 = Supporting tape length, in mm
S4 = Supporting tape length, in mm
L = Cable length, in mm
In normal standard, supporting tape is in Blue color and insulation tape is in White color.

Conductor Supply-Stand

This is a conductor supply stand.
Tin plated copper wind on bobbins will be placed horizontally on the stand. A total of 55 bobbins can be hold on one side of the stand and another 55 pieces on the opposite side. The bobbins are free to rotate and conductors is being "pull" into the laminator for lamination process.

FFC Laminator

FFC is being made by heat pressed two layer i.e. top & bottom, of PVC or PE insulation over rollers. The shape of the machine is something as shown in the photo.

There is a stand to supply the conductors.
I will post another photo on the conductor supply reel later.

The pick-up of the finished FFC is at the right-hand end of the machine.
